Dr. Chirantan Ghosh, MD, FACP, EMBA, is a board-certified Hematologist and Oncologist in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, affiliated with UnityPoint Health – St. Luke’s, Mercy Medical Center, and Compass Memorial Hospital in Marengo. During his 35 years of professional career, he has been an author or coauthor in more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He introduced the concept of holistic care in his Ghosh Center and was able to publish that holistic care translated to nearly four times survival in metastatic cancer patients. He has received numerous national and international recognition for his contribution in health care.
Dr. Ghosh graduated from Calcutta National Medical College. While in medical college, he played in first division hockey, second division in soccer – a rare achievement for medical students in Kolkata. He also was the founding member in transforming the student’s union to a non-political entity. He was elected as the President of Student Union that represented more than 1000 students.
Beyond his medical practice, Dr. Ghosh and his wife, Sima, have been philanthropists – funding healthcare, education, community initiatives locally and in West Bengal. His contributions include scholarships to the students of three high schools in Cedar Rapids that have enhanced participation and increased scores in final exams in AP courses, scholarships for oncology nurses, and scholarships for nursing students, PROJECT FINISH at Kirkwood Community College, community meals, and adult computer learning programs. The APG Foundation, named after his mother Annapurna, has provided financial assistance for cancer patients in the Cedar Rapids area over the last 22 years and has been able to give back to the community more than 850K.
Dr. Ghosh has never forgotten his roots. He has been relentless in his activities in West Bengal. It spans from installing tube-wells in multiple villages, homeopathic clinics, supporting 480 families during Covid, endowing a bed in RKM Hospital, supporting the construction of the Emergency Department of Joka Bharat Seva Sangha Hospital. At the present, Dr. Ghosh is on the mission of eradicating the cause of blindness – diabetic retinopathy. He is one of the founders and currently Medical Director of Artelus, an innovative AI company that makes early diagnosis feasible and affordable.
During Covid, Dr. Ghosh adopted a small village of 75 families in the Sundarban area with a plan to make the village economically self-sustaining. The program encompasses schooling for younger children, agricultural and fishery support, vocational training for women, like sewing and making jam, etc., so that women in the village could achieve financial independence.
